My name is Jack Kennedy. After entering the industry as an artist and mixing engineer I quickly realized that the slightly mysterious, always subtle world of mastering was my true passion. Using my detailed knowledge of the entire musical creative process as a guide, I decided to dive head first into becoming a mastering engineer.
I operate with a “no compromise” mindset; we will do whatever is needed to ensure your vision is achieved. There are no limits on revisions. An environment with honest and open communication is encouraged, expected and easy.
This manifests itself in the mastering. Deep and intense focus are standard. My life outside music operates to allow it. How I treat my body, balance my life, and prepare my mind are all in service of being present and available to the music while working.
It is an all-encompassing, unyielding commitment to excellence. The music only reveals its most well-kept and singular insights to those who are available to understand it. I take being present for that very seriously.
Philosophy03
Each master is approached with an open and clear mind. On the one hand the art is held loose, creative ideas and paths are taken lightly, and a curiosity to uncover what is in the music is paramount. To see what it may yet become. Fearlessness and risk-taking are required.
On the other, the music is treated with serious and specific care. Akin to how you would treat a loved one or precious possession. A disposition of protection and warmth.
Listening both generously and critically helps me build layers of depth to understanding the truth imbued in the art. Being able to hold both of these conflicting approaches, while still seeing the music as a whole is a key to creating a master that truly connects.
It is my opinion that mastering in its truest form helps a record become a compelling and deeply unique version of what it was meant to be. One that honors and hopefully opens a new window into how the record can connect.
This is why no two masters will sound alike. Even from me on two different days. We are not bringing music to some predetermined destination that is perfect. We are framing it in a way that brings out its character.
I aim to capture the visceral reaction a record evokes so it translates not only in the current landscape but also stands the test of time. When focus is on truth and connection in the music this becomes possible.
Beyond the music I hope we can build a fruitful long-term collaborative creative relationship that encourages us both to be more daring in our craft. I aim to be a trusted part of your music-making process and want you to be able to count on me to finish your music, while knowing that every artistic and technical detail was considered thoroughly before the music is released.

I love to work on music of any genre and experience level. I want to work with you. Reach out, we can discuss project rate bundles, ways to come in at a certain budget, etc. There is always a way!
Not every project fits neatly in a box. Sometimes things call for work outside the usual scope of mastering. We can make it happen. Should different expertise be needed, I also know many great record makers who can step in.

Studio05
My studio has been designed from the walls up, in consultation with SDPLA, to maximize the possibilities of the space for mastering. It is truly an incredibly accurate and boutique listening environment.
Acoustic treatment is housed in the framing behind the absorptive felt-board walls and ceiling. Tuned membrane bass traps are hidden behind special housings on either side of the listening position to ensure that low frequencies are represented accurately. Even all the finishes are chosen with acoustics in mind. This allows me to trust what I’m hearing to make subtle adjustments that bring out the character in your record and vision.
PMC 6-2 monitors, with an additional PMC 8-Sub on each channel, represent the entire frequency spectrum with immense detail. A carefully curated and vetted array of the highest-end analog and digital gear allows me to use my skills reliably to surpass results the most demanding artists and teams expect.
